It’s not easy being a regulator

Regulators are charged with implementing laws and policies to achieve social, economic, or environmental outcomes — all within the limits of their legislative authority. It’s a demanding role, made more complex by constant change, scrutiny, and rising community expectations.

Regulators must administer regulation so that the underlying social, economic or environmental policy objectives are achieved 'in accordance with the powers and authority given to them through legislation and government direction' (ANAO Administering Regulation June 2014, p.3).
